Serious Tissues makes toilet and kitchen roll from 100% recycled paper, as well as plastic-free soap and concentrated laundry detergent strips. The social enterprise is proud to be the first in the UK to offer carbon-neutral toilet roll, and for every roll sold plants a tree in the UK and around the world. Serious Tissues has planted over 1.7 million so far.
"Our immediate aim is to plant 10 million trees which will replace the 10 million that are cut down each year to make toilet paper." - Chris Baker, Founder & CEO
Serious Tissues uses recycled paper for their rolls - from newspapers, cereal boxes, etc. - instead of bamboo because the carbon footprint is smaller and it means that they don’t have to ship the bamboo from China. This means that Serious Tissues can produce in the Midlands, UK.
Their plastic-free Serious Laundry detergent is ultra-concentrated into strips so they don't require a plastic bottle or film. The strips simply dissolve into liquid detergent in the machine. The outer packaging is also plastic free and 100% recyclable.
The company’s partnership with rePurpose also means that for every pack of soap or laundry detergent sold, Serious Tissues recovers 1kg of ocean-bound plastic – the equivalent of 50 plastic bottles, or 500 crisp packets!
The social enterprise is also a verified Living Wage employer.
