About Sue Ure

I wanted to become a potter almost from the moment I discovered learning to use the potter's wheel aged 17. It was the immense pleasure in being able to create pots that were for everyday use that was a driving force - and of course the desire to make those pieces as beautiful as possible. Whist of course one's taste evolves, the source of my taste and aesthetic choices today are very easy to recognise. They are very much inspired by the 60's and 70's British post-war exuberance and optimism - but also informed by the ground-breaking simplicity of earlier 20th century movements, such as Bauhaus. But I find equal exuberance and sophistication in the world of ancient ceramics, ranging from Minoan to Chinese pottery. Ceramics last for a very long time, I think one has a duty of responsibility to make sure our designs merit this longevity! I create in small series, and do my best to ensure that my carbon footprint is as minimal as possible. My production is almost exclusively using solar energy and use only paper and cardboard in my packaging.
